MUSIC THROUGH THE DARK
by Daran Kravanh

CD - $15.00

MediaRites Productions presents "Music Through the Dark," a CD of music by Daran Kravanh. This CD contains traditional Cambodian tunes and original compositions written by Kravanh.

One day, while working in the "killing fields" of Cambodia, Daran Kravanh found an accordion on the stump of a tree. The Khmer Rouge guards allowed him to keep the instrument as long as he played communist songs. Daran's music brought hope to him and to his neighbors as they lived through daily atrocities.

"Music Through the Dark" is a companion CD to the book of the same name, a history of Kravanh's life written by Bree Lafreniere. The book can be purchased here, at the University of Hawaii Press.

Kravanh's story, produced by MediaRites, was highlighted on NPR's "Day to Day" program. Listen to that story here.

Kravanh also participated in the 'Refugee Dreams Revisited' project in spring of 2005, performing at the final event: A Celebration for Peace.
